Wearing prostheses openly in a crowd, gradually opening up through mutual support, and encouraging others through smiles and songs: over four days and five nights, Zeanso had the opportunity to document and witness the Mengzhi Team’s fifth confidence-rebuilding camp, the “Journey of Empowerment.” By sharing in the experiences of team members and participants each day, we came to understand one another better and strengthened our commitment to supporting more prosthesis users through technology.
Rebuilding confidence, reshaping everyday life
The China Mengzhi Team was formed on May 8, 2018, by a group of positive, optimistic prosthesis users. In 2019, it began a nationwide series of charitable inspirational talks at schools, community groups, charities and businesses. Members shared how they had faced the challenges of amputation, rebuilt confidence and reshaped their lives, along with the learning and growth they experienced after joining the team. Their stories have encouraged many listeners.
At each confidence-rebuilding camp, members and participants share their stories and listen to one another, discovering each person’s strengths as their understanding grows. They also engage with the wider community, showing their confidence, optimism and determination to live well.
Moving forward through determination and innovation
Zeanso’s participation in the fifth camp reflected the team’s long-standing belief in self-reliance and determination. Through indoor and outdoor fitting experiences, members and participants learned about Zeanso and its independently developed Jiguang smart knee. They became more familiar with Chinese smart prosthetics and experienced how new technology can support everyday life.
“It is light and flexible. It keeps up with my steps and makes walking easier.” “If a prosthesis were a car, this knee would be a well-equipped, high-performance model.” “We believe you can do this well, and that more people will come to accept and recognize Chinese smart prosthetics.” The feedback from team members and participants, together with their hopes for Chinese smart prosthetics, was deeply encouraging.
Two team members also presented us with calligraphy bearing the words “Love” and “Striving for excellence, moving forward with you.” We were deeply moved by their gifts.
Over four days and five nights, we saw team members and participants encourage and strengthen one another. Together with the Mengzhi Team, we completed a journey of growth.
